08.26.12 edit: This Kyuubey (plus two smaller ones) are now available on my Storenvy shop :3
A few weeks ago, I got the urge to work in clay again. It's kind of a strange thing for me, since clay and I traditionally do not get along very well, but one must not resist artistic urges that are actually feasible because you already have access to most of the required materials (unlike my as-yet-unfulfilled cosplay urges, I already had a giant box of Sculpey lying around).
Confession time: I haven't actually seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica (which is where Kyuubey is from), though I keep meaning to do so. I wanted to try out having a separate dangling tail, because I've seen some dedicated charm makers do that and it looks really cute! But I couldn't think of any characters I really wanted to try it with, until my Tumblr dashboard went through another wave of Kyuubey-love, and I've always kind of liked his design and what I've heard of his character, so there you go!
Kyuubey was the first of this set of charms (14 total) that I painted and glazed, and so he has a little bit of oddness near his mouth—turns out that my inking pens will smear with this glaze if I don't apply it very carefully—but it's a small defect and overall I'm really pleased with him, and hoping he finds a good home if and when I get a table at a con to sell him at (even though I'm tempted to keep him for myself, haha).
Kyuubey is ~3" long, made of Sculpey and wire, painted with acrylics and a touch of Prismacolor inking pens.
Wow, this is really, really good! I love tail-dangle charms.
Yeah, definitely give PMMM a watch. I don't think it's as life-alteringly amazing as people make it out to be, but there's only 12 episodes and they're all really solid. The series picks up hard at about Episode 4.
The main thing preventing me from watching it (aside from the stupid way bandwidth is limited up here, hiss @ semi-rural areas) it is that I just completely forget that I want to do it until I'm doing something else that's kind of more important (like working on today's BA earlier today). And then I'm like "oh yeah I wanted to do that, okay I'll do it after" and then after... I forget again, haha.
But I've got the first two episodes down now, and it's in my browser so unless it crashes I won't forget now!
