08.25.12: By popular request, these charms are now available on Storenvy.

A few weeks ago, I got the urge to work in clay again. It's kind of a strange thing for me, since clay and I traditionally do not get along very well, but one must not resist artistic urges that are actually feasible because you already have access to most of the required materials (unlike my as-yet-unfulfilled cosplay urges, I already had a giant box of Sculpey lying around).

It's probably not that evident if you only watch my DA but I've become enamored with a japanese dating sim called Hatoful Boyfriend. Dating sims in general don't hold much appeal for me, and this one probably wouldn't be that much different, if it didn't have something that set it apart: you date pigeons. Apparently, the H1N1 virus (aka avian flu) was a lot more virulent and humans did some stupid crap that not only empowered birds with sentience and intelligence and all the rest of it, but also managed to kill almost all of humanity off in the process. You play a highschool-aged (of course) human girl who lives in a cave and is one of the few remaining humans in a world now ruled by birds.

Now, each bird has a typically-bishounen anime/japanese dating sim-style "human form" that is displayed the first time you meet them (and then never again thereafter), presumably to help you relate to them as a player not automatically attracted to plumage and wingspan. It's unsurprising (albeit a bit disappointing) that most of the fanart for the game is of these humanized versions/gijinkas/whatever, but damnit if I'm dating pigeons I want to be under the clear understanding that I am, in fact, dating a pigeon and not a 6'2" brown-haired violet-eyed bespectacled man with a butcher's knife safely tucked away in his back pocket, behind his lab coat.

From a charm-making perspective, this made my job both easier and harder. Differentiating each pigeon was more difficult when you don't have anime hair to fall back on, and I think I did end up swapping some bodies around during the painting process, having forgotten which body was for which bird. Even so, I think most of them came out quite well—Shuu is far and away my favourite and Yuuya is probably the most bland.

Everybirdie averages between 1 and 1.5" tall and 1 and 1.75" long (Anghel is the largest by far, while Yuuya and Okosan are the smallest) and has two little mini-charms that relate to their character and story arcs (either in the main game or the BBL path). They're all made of Sculpey and wire, painted with acrylic paint and glazed.

By the way, since this marks the end of this first batch of charms, if you've got any suggestions of charms you'd like to see made, let me know over on this journal post :3

They're all made of Sculpey clay (might be super sculpey actually, I can't quite remember! haha) and wire, with paint :3 Wood would be good though, and definitely something I want to try in the future, even if it is a little more risky for my clumsy fingers :P

Aw, ty :3 Well, you can now if you'd like, as of right now they're all available at my shop, though I dunno how long they'll be there or if they're in your price range or what, haha :x But yeah! Thank you all the same; I really like them and I'm glad you do too :D

(And sorry for being so late to respond to this; I was in the process of setting up the shop the day you saw these, and didn't really want to be like "well I'll have them available soon!" again because I was so close to actually having them up... and then I ran into problems so I ended up sitting on your comment a lot longer than I meant to D: Sorry sorry agh!)
